Intro to Coil Building - 2 weeks
Building with coils. During these two 3-hours workshops, you will use the traditional technique of coil building. The technique enables us to make larger and more robust vessels or sculptural pieces with more organic shapes. You will have the option to work with a white or brown clay body. After creating two unique pieces you will learn different techniques for decorating with slips, textures and sgraffito. Finished pots will be approximately 6-10 inches in height and width and will be large enough to be used as a planter, storage jar, or lamp base. Following a slow drying process adapted to larger forms your work will be fired and glazed by the Atelier Make team. This class is open to all levels. The technique can be adapted to beginner, intermediate, and advanced students.
